As it 'rolls' around the table, it gently swirls the wine, allowing the full contents of the decanter to come into contact with air.
Once wine has been aired, the decanter can be sat on the supplied silver plate base, as pictured.

In doing the job of waking up the wine this decanter is excellent and it looks great on the breakfast table, ooops I mean dinner table! A couple of design faults: Because of the narrow neck it is not easy to pour the wine in. Don't get distracted or you'll have wine everywhere! It doesn't pour the wine out very easily either and we frequently get dribbles down the outside of the decanter. Drying the decanter after washing is a challenge. A suggestion to the design team at Zerutti is to create the base of the decanter so you can balance the decanter on it upside down so it can drip dry.

We simply love this decanter, its design and looks is one of the best. Please don't change a thing. I clean it in hot soapy water, rince a drip dry up side down on a tea towel in the sink. I would never dream of ever spilling even a drop when I pour my wine in to the decanter. (This can be done even after you had a few reds. This is my 3rd purchase, my family loves them, so they make super gifts especially when you also add a bottel of red and show them how to pour and enjoy.

My son bought me my first Zerruti decanter 3 Christmases back and fell in love with the design and functionality ever since! We bought another as my niece's wedding gift recently and they absolute adore it too. Have no issues with pouring & cleaning the decanter it just needs to be rinsed out thoroughly and allow to drip dry on a stable/sturdy rack overnight.

This is a fantastic decanter - it looks fantastic on the dining table because of it's unique shape - and always a talking point at dinner parties. Decanting wine into it has not been a problem, and cleaning is easy. My only suggestion would be to make sure you rinse the decanter after use to ensure sediment from the wine does not settle on bottom overnight -this can be hard to shift.
